Deputy Appoints Ciaran Hale as Chief Technology Officer to Accelerate Global Technology and AI Innovation
GLOBAL — 16 June 2025 — Deputy, the global people platform for shift-based businesses, has announced the appointment of Ciaran Hale as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Hale joins Deputy with an extensive background in AI, digital technology, enterprise data platforms, and large-scale engineering transformations across some of the world's most respected technology companies.
Most recently, Hale served as CTO at Displayr, an Australian scale-up in the market research space, where he drove cloud migration, developer productivity, and the launch of generative AI capabilities. Prior to that, he held senior engineering leadership roles at Atlassian, where he led engineering teams of over 500 and was instrumental in launching Atlassian Analytics, a product that enables deep customer insight through connected data visualisation.
“At Deputy, we've always believed that transformative technology leadership demands both bold vision and a deep commitment to delivering customer value,” said Silvija Martincevic, CEO of Deputy. “Ciaran is not just a technologist — he’s a builder and a scaler. His track record in scaling teams, driving engineering culture, and launching AI-powered products makes him the ideal person to take our technology organisation to new heights. I’m thrilled to welcome him to our leadership team.”
In his new role, Hale will lead Deputy’s global engineering function, bringing a deep understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, AI-driven product strategy, and engineering culture. As CTO, he will work closely with the product, data, and platform teams to further strengthen Deputy’s technology foundations and deliver solutions that meet the growing complexity of shift-based businesses worldwide.
“Deputy is solving real, meaningful problems for millions of shift workers and the businesses that rely on them,” said Ciaran Hale, Chief Technology Officer at Deputy. “What drew me to Deputy was not only the scale of the opportunity, but the company’s clear commitment to quality, innovation, and impact. Having started my own career in shift work, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by this essential workforce. That personal connection makes Deputy’s mission deeply meaningful to me. I’m excited to help build the next generation of AI-powered products and platforms that serve shift workers around the world — and to do so alongside a world-class team.”
Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Hale has lived in Sydney for the past 14 years. Outside of work, he’s a passionate scuba diver and sports fan, with diving highlights that include wreck dives in Fiji and Grey Nurse Shark sightings in Sydney Harbour.
Hale's appointment comes as the company continues to scale internationally and deepen its investment in AI, automation, and data-led solutions that empower businesses and workers.
