Deputy launches new AI platform on AWS to transform how businesses manage shift work

Global – 28 November 2025 — Deputy, the global people platform for shift work, today launches its new Deputy AI platform that’s designed to act like a super teammate. Built with Amazon Web Services’s (AWS) generative AI services, Deputy AI acts as an intelligent and proactive workforce management assistant that assesses schedule and attendance data for fast answers to questions, equips managers with the information they need to make better decisions, and acts autonomously to complete requested actions.

It tackles repetitive, manual, and time-consuming tasks including quickly finding shift replacements, checking who’s clocked in, approving timesheets or filling schedules for the week ahead to ensure coverage and maximise revenue. By reducing everyday tasks from hours or minutes down to seconds, Deputy AI frees managers from administrative drag and gives them back valuable time to focus on staff, performance, and growth. Its accuracy also helps reduce costly errors in scheduling and attendance, creating more efficient, confident, and connected workplaces.

Deputy AI’s assistant leverages Deputy's comprehensive workforce data, including schedules, timesheets, employee records, and compliance rules. This integration enables Deputy AI to understand business-specific context and deliver precise, actionable responses.

AWS is providing the global cloud infrastructure and generative AI capabilities that allow Deputy to innovate quickly, deploy globally, and maintain the highest performance and resilience across the Deputy platform. Amazon Bedrock serves as Deputy’s primary inference environment, providing access to cutting-edge large language models from multiple AI providers all through a single API. By leveraging Amazon Bedrock, Deputy AI can select the optimal AI model for each task, whether analysing workforce patterns, generating natural language responses, or processing structured data queries.

Deputy AI also leverages Amazon Bedrock Guardrails to validate and moderate user input and model output, filtering harmful or off-topic content and protecting sensitive data. It also uses Amazon Elastic Container Service which powers the core compute layer where Deputy’s AI services and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers run, providing scalability, resilience, and consistency across environments.

“AWS has been instrumental in helping us bring Deputy AI to life,” said Ciaran Hale, Chief Technology Officer at Deputy. “Amazon Bedrock gives us secure, compliant, and easy access to the leading AI models, which means we can build smarter tools like predictive scheduling without compromising data privacy. Amazon Bedrock Guardrails allow us to control misuse of our underlying APIs and reduce hallucinations, helping us deliver a safer product. And the expertise of the AWS team truly feels like an extension of our own team, ensuring our cloud and AI architecture are optimised for governance, performance, and long-term innovation.”

“Deputy has been building and scaling on AWS since day one, leveraging our global infrastructure and latest technologies, from compute and data services in the early days, through to AWS’s latest generative AI services that power their safe, enterprise-grade Deputy AI platform for millions of shift workers worldwide,” said Sarah Bassett, Head of Software at AWS Australia and New Zealand. “We’re proud of our work with Deputy as they reinforce the innovative spirit that we’ve seen from Australian software companies, continuously pushing boundaries to transform industries, positioning Australia as a global leader in technology innovation.”

Deputy AI is currently in beta, with a broader rollout planned for 2026 and represents the first step in a global transformation of the Deputy platform, building for the next generation of frontline workers and the businesses that employ them. Features in development include:

  • AI Labour Optimisation: Forecast demand based on historic data, predict labour requirements, and automatically create compliant schedules at scale
  • AI Insights and Analytics: Ask questions in plain language, AI delivers charts, trends, and smart business summaries
  • AI Performance Management: AI analyses shift, attendance, and feedback data to surface trends and improve performance
  • AI Timesheet Approval: AI auto-approves timesheets using your rules, flagging only the ones that need review
  • AI Staff Engagement: AI analyses feedback and recognition to reveal trends and boost satisfaction and retention
  • AI Payroll Anomaly Detection: AI detects payroll issues early, highlighting anomalies and streamlining pre-payday reviews
