SYDNEY – October 07, 2021 – More than 175,000 Aussie workers are estimated to have lost their jobs, or been without income during the latest lockdowns and continued border closures from May this year according to the Australian Institutes Centre for Future Work.

Many businesses have been unable to operate for over a quarter of the year now, and do not have the financial backing to support its employees through this time. Deputy data shows an 88% decline in rostered hours across the hospitality sector in Australia since 01 June that has remained stagnant in states with continued stay at home orders with many workers and business owners alike facing uncertainty about their ability to rebound financially.

Deputy understands the impact our hospitality sector has on the Australian economy, our national employment rate, and tourism. Which is why it is committed to helping the sector return to its pre-pandemic times of prosperity when our favourite eateries did more than just feed us, they were a way to experience local communities and were destinations for family and friends to come together and connect with each other.

Like many tech companies, Deputy has benefited from hospitality businesses which have contributed to much of its growth throughout the years, and it has a vested interest in ensuring that these businesses and their workers are able to rethink their strategies, rebuild operations and recover from the impact of the last two years successfully.

In order to do that successfully Deputy is pleased to announce its newly formed partnerships with Australian hospitality legends, Anthony Huckstep, Bianca Welsh, Shaun Christie-David, and Jackie Middleton, who will act as advisors to Deputy and its community on all things hospitality as we look to bounce back from the last year stronger than ever, together.

Working with the Deputy team the advisors will assist in building an engaged community, deliver industry-specific education to company stakeholders and will influence the way product features and programs are created so that the Hospitality sector is supported as the long road to recovery begins.

“My hope is that these partnerships are just the beginning of Deputy building a stronger connection with the hospitality sector. And through their guidance we can create a destination for the industry to connect, share their experiences and educate Deputy on what it needs to do - to be a better partner for themselves, for their business and their team.”
